If you can call and speak with a person directly, always do so. Hotlines are for hours when there isn't anyone to answer a call. However, in both regions I have worked in, failing to call at least one hour in advance is a no-call/no-show unless you actually arrive for work.

Depends on your region. In mine, Pacific Northwest, we are required to call out an hour or more before our scheduled shift starts. Call the store, talk to someone in your department leadership and then someone in store leadership. After hours there is an extension we can dial because no one is answering the phone after closing.

You also must call and speak to an LOD/ Store Leadership at some point to make it official. Since these positions are normally not in prior to 7am or so you need to leave a message on the call out/store line to verify the time you initially called in to report your absence. 3 level 1 · 2 yr. ago
