The Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) is a not-for-profit association of public service and commercial broadcasters in the Caribbean, reaching over 4.8 million people in the region. Barbados offered, and was selected to be the Headquarters. The first Secretary General was Mr. Jones P. Madeira. The current Secretary General is Ms. Sonia Gill, who became the first woman in the post in 2014. The CBU Secretariat is currently located at the Caribbean Media Centre, in the Harbour Industrial Estate in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The recognition is done under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO. We do so under the theme of “Information as a Public Good”.
