The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has moved its new Headquarters to the Southeast Federal Center. DOT is housed in two connected buildings – the East Building and the West Building. The new headquarters for the U.S. Department of Transportation is located on an 11-acre parcel within the Southeast Federal Center. DOT project is the first new cabinet-level headquarters to be designed and constructed in the Capitol in over three decades.

DOT is the only Cabinet-level agency with its Headquarters housed in a leased facility. In 2006, DOT relocated its Headquarters from a facility near L'Enfant Plaza to the current 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE. The initial 15-year lease will expire on October 19, 2021 and action must be taken to secure DOT's location after this date.
