Headquarters Overview. Headquarters campground has 44 campsites along the banks of the Upper Kern River and about 1 mile north of Kernville. There are several campsites along the river and many have shade from a variety of trees. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and small RVs. There are no hookups.

Lovely spot in early spring. Just north of Lake Isabella, the Headquarters campground is a lovely spot on right on the river. It is flat and at this time of year there there only a few other campers. Our site was literally a few feet from the river so at night the rushing water was very comforting. The wildlife was abundant especially the birds and at night there is no road traffic.
