At 9,392 feet, Rocky Mountain is the highpoint of the Sawtooth Range as well as the entire Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. We continued just beyond the pass’ highpoint to get a better look at neighboring twin-summited Old Baldy (9,156’) and the sprawling valley of Headquarters Creek. The views here are commanding and just beg you to continue on.

Headquarters Pass looms beneath the 9,392 foot Rocky Mountain, the highpoint of both the Sawtooth Range and the entire Bob Marshall Wilderness. From the summit, it is about a mile to 7743' Headquarters Creek Pass. Descend to a saddle between Point 8789 and an unmarked summit east-southeast of it, and then either bypass the summit (enjoy the talus sidehilling) or hike up that second summit to continue to the pass.
